About MORGRITECH

A Measured Approach to Tech.

My name is Joseph Morgridge, creator of Morgritech. I studied mechanical engineering (BEng) and advanced engineering design (MSc) at university. Both courses were varied and inclusive of a wide range of subjects from electronics to software and mechanics, however I found early on after my undergraduate studies that a career as a "mechanical-software-electronics" engineer is extremely hard to find, and rightly so, as each of these roles is quite involved. Trust me I know; I have worked full time as a mechanical engineer/designer for a few years and have collaborated with electrical/electronics and software engineers on various projects. Nevertheless I started learning robotics in my spare time to feed my interest in areas beyond mechanical engineering/design. I narrowed my interest down to robot arms a.k.a articulated robots a.k.a industrial robots which I learned about and was lucky enough to work with during my postgraduate studies.

Industrial robots are expensive machines, and not exactly for the consumer market, hence the name "industrial". I decided that developing a low cost desktop sized robot arm with similar capabilities to an industrial robot would serve as a good project to test and further develop my skills in all areas of engineering that I am passionate about. Enter MTarm!

MTarm is currently a 4-axis desktop robot arm (MTarm 4R). The design has already been through several iterations, progressively improving on different aspects each time. The next and potentially final iteration before it is released will see MTarm evolve into a 6-axis robot arm (MTarm 6R).

MTcontrol-hub software is a programme for controlling MTarm. The programme will eventually evolve to control similar 4-axis or 6-axis robot arms driven by stepper motors and drivers.

Please note that this is a part time endeavour, hence the release of product/software updates and tutorials will be gradual.
